The European and Asian name of \u2019<em>paprika<\/em>\u2019 can be traced back to the Greek-Latin \u2019<em>peperi<\/em>\u2019-\u2019<em>piper<\/em>\u2019 expressions, meaning \u2019pepper\u2019. The Hungarian word, \u2019paprika\u2019 is a diminutive version of the Slav(ic) expression, \u2019<em>papar<\/em>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>We can talk about two distinct ways of the Paprika\u2019s dispersion in Europe. <strong>First, it was Christopher Columbus who is said to have brought with him a type of pepper, which was chillier than the Caucasian type<\/strong>. Paprika was a domesticated plant among the Native American people, thus the explorers named it \u2019Indian pepper\u2019. Due to its outstanding adaptability, this tropical plant got acclimatized to the very different climate and conditions. From Spain it was introduced to Southern France and England, and it soon became Europe\u2019s favorite decorative houseplant. In Hungary it was also used for decoration, first. In 1570, it was mentioned in Margit Sz\u00e9chy\u2019s garden as \u2019red Turkish pepper\u2019, and in 1579, the French botanist, Clusius introduced it into the garden of Boldizs\u00e1r Batthy\u00e1nyi as well.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paprika (Chili Pepper) originated in the southern part of Mexico, Central America, and the islands of the Antilles.
