Unique throughout Europe, the Harkány medicinal waters well up to the surface from 50-70 meters deep, with an average temperature of 62 ºC. Their mineral content is more than 1,000 mg per liter. From a medicinal standpoint its most significant mineral is the bivalent sulfide that forms cartilage, carbonyl sulfide (COS). Sulfurous compounds are extremely useful in the therapy for locomotive disorders, and in the treatment of gynecological and skin diseases (psoriasis).
