In 2021, the Béla Kövér Puppet Theater in Szeged turns 75!
Béla Kövér – the founder of our puppet theater – was an eighth-grade Piarist high school student preparing to graduate when he and his fellow scouts (with the support of teachers and parents) founded the Kamara Puppet Theater in Szeged in 1946. Their goal was “to set up a permanent, high-quality puppet theater in Szeged, in which the fairy-tale-like quality remains even to the last degree”.
The art-loving Boy Scouts already set themselves the goal of establishing a permanent puppet theater in our city. From 1964, the company was already known as the Szeged Puppet Theater.
